Stories vs. Posts - what's the difference?

Do you know the different purposes your feed posts and your Stories serve? You need to! With 400 million people using stories, they are adding 10 minutes on to the their daily usage! Here's the deal: You need to utilize both, but both serve a different purpose and the content needs to reflect this. Everyone is so focused on gaining followers, but those followers are a total waste (*gasp*) if you aren't using stories to connect and build a relationship with them. If you are using Instagram to influence a decision - the followers will not turn into fans and the fans won't turn into customers until they know, like and trust you. Stories is a great place to get this done.

Worksheet Feed vs Stories

Your Instagram Feed and grid is where your potential followers are making their follow

decisions. It's also how people are discovering you in determining whether or

not they want to be a part of what you are doing on Instagram.

As you are creating very specific content for a very specific person that you’ve determined is your ideal customer, and you are spending the time engaging with new people (those very specific people that you're creating content for) to attract them back to your account, think of your Instagram Feed as a place where your potential followers are discovering you and then deciding whether or not to follow you.

Your feed is the first thing they see when they come to back to check you out after you have engaged with them on their posts.

They take a look around, and then they make a decision as to whether or not to follow you. You continue to share content in the feed well that gives your audience the opportunity to keep making that decision to consciously follow you and consume your content.

Stories allow you to engage in an authentic way with your followers - those people who have already decided that they liked what they saw, and want to see more from you. Remember, we want them to KNOW, LIKE and CONNECT with you. This is a great opportunity to build trust with your followers and grow your relationship.

If a user interacts with your story – they are more likely to see your post in your feed. The purpose of Stories is not to grow your following. The purpose of

Instagram Stories is to nurture the relationship you have with your followers and

to deepen the level of connection that you have with them on Instagram. So if

you're using your feed to help your followers make a decision to buy a good, try your service, or influence their thinking, think of using your Instagram stories as a place to take the followers you already have and build an even more meaningful relationship with them.
